MISSION STATEMENT
Native Orchid Conservation Inc. is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to foster an awareness of and protect unique ecosystems and their plant communities. This primarily involves native orchids, but also extends to other rare and/or endangered plants.
OBJECTIVES
- Identify areas containing rare native plant species.
- Work alone or with other conservation bodies, governments and corporations to conserve native plant species.
- Conduct research and field studies, and preserve data on specimens of native plants.
- Foster an awareness and appreciation of rare native plant species in the field and through educational displays.
- Provide an association and a voice for those interested in the conservation of native plants and the natural environment.
- Provide field trips and opportunities for study for students and the general public interested in learning more about Manitoba’s native plant species.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS and MAJOR MILESTONES
December 2016: New website www.nativeorchid.org goes live.
September 2016: Launch of “Orchids of Manitoba, a field guide” (2nd edition) at McNally Robinson Booksellers.
June 2016: Official opening of Brokenhead Wetland Interpretive Trail on June 22.
June 2016: Second edition of “Orchids of Manitoba, a field guide” is published.
May 2016: New website www.debwendon.org goes live.
2016: Launch of “Native Orchids of Manitoba” Orchid App in iOS format, “Full” version featuring Manitoba’s 37 native orchids.
2015: Launch of “Native Orchids of Manitoba” Orchid App in iOS format, “Light” version featuring ten Manitoba’s orchids.
2014: Launch of “Native Orchids of Manitoba” Android Orchid App, “Full” version featuring Manitoba’s 37 native orchids.
January 2014: Launch of “Native Orchids of Manitoba” Android Orchid App, “Light” version featuring ten Manitoba’s orchids.
June 2012: Manitoba provincial government doubles the size of Brokenhead Wetland Ecological Reserve to 1240 ha.
October 2011: Manitoba provincial government announces $1M for construction of the Brokenhead Wetland Interpretive Trail. Eugene Reimer sets up the Eugene Reimer Environment Fund through the Winnipeg Foundation for the perpetual operation and maintenance of the trail and boardwalk.
February 2008: Co-produces the educational video “EKO” on the significance of the Brokenhead Wetland to the people of the Brokenhead Ojibway Nation.
June 2007: Winner (Silver) of the Canadian Environment Awards in the Conservation category, for its efforts to protect the Brokenhead Wetland.
April 2006: Winner of Premier Doer’s Volunteer Service Award in the Community category, for working to protect Manitoba’s native orchid species and their habitats.
August 2005: Produces educational video “Zoom in on Native Orchids”.
July 2005: Publishes field guide “Orchids of Manitoba”.
June 2005: Declaration of Brokenhead Wetland Ecological Reserve (563 ha).
April 1999: Certificate of Recognition by Premier Gary Filmon on behalf of the Manitoba Roundtable for Sustainable Development, for valuable contributions toward sustainable development.
